It was an amazing year winning the SEC and the SEC tournament and making the Final Four. There was an opportunity at Vanderbilt that came about and so I took that. Going from OU, when I took that job, I planned on being there open ended. It's been a really cool journey that I never kind of expected. What have experiences at the last few schools, which included Final Four and Elite Eight berths, done to further your career? The last few years have probably been a whirlwind too with stops at Oklahoma and one season each at Vanderbilt and Texas Tech. There is not a moment that goes by that I'm not doing something. I've enjoyed every moment of it even though it's been a whirlwind. So it's been frantic with lots of things to do before the girls get back, but it's been awesome. I'm now in Ames and am really just trying to put everything together. ![]() I was over there about 10 days and came back. A few days after I got the job, I flew over to Europe and started recruiting. As soon as I got the call and accepted the job, I knew I needed to probably hit the ground running. W hat has life been like since making the move to Iowa State last month? Answers have been edited for brevity and clarity. He is a native of Arkansas City, Kan., and is the 10th coach in ISU tennis history. The Kansas alum worked with the Jayhawks from 2010-14 and also spent time as an assistant at Oklahoma (2014-16) following a playing career at Cowley College (Kan.). Saia, whose given name is Vincent but goes by Boomer because of his family's affection for former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason, has spent the last two years at Vanderbilt and Texas Tech respectively, helping the Commodores (2016-17) to a Final Four and the Lady Raiders (2017-18) to an Elite Eight in the NCAA tournament. Saia was hired in June to replace Armando Espinosa after the Cyclones went 9-17 last season and winless in the Big 12.
